On July 29, poloff delivered reftel demarche to Tove
Skagerwall, Desk Officer at the MFA. Skagerwall said Sweden
is a strong supporter of Turkey's accession to the EU. In a
press statement on July 30, Foreign Minister Carl Bildt
positively reacted to the decision by the Turkish
Constitutional Court not to ban the AK Party.

"The decision opens up for further reforms, ensuring Turkey's
further progress in line with European norms of democratic
governance, human rights and the rule of law. The Council of
Europe stands ready to assist in this process."
