Report text

During a planned halt at Sabari DC, TM 2 was asked to investigate a motorcycle that was brought in from a suspected IED location. The damage to the motorcycle was consistent with damage caused by an explosive blast. Based on the motorcycle, RCP 9 responded to the suspected SOE and discovered a fresh crater 64 in wide by 20 in deep. The EOD team dismounted and cleared the area for secondary devices prior to starting their Post Blast Analysis. Although no components of an IED were found, several indicators were present. Adjacent the SOE, the team found a blue plastic insulator (commonly used in the area as a positive block in Trip Wire/Command Pull IEDs), two pieces of red electrical tape, and two plastic bags. Additionally, disturbed earth was found on the north side of the road, which appeared to be a freshly dug trench to conceal IED components. Based on the evidence or lack of, it appears that the IED may have prematurely detonated causing damage to the motorcycle and possibly injuring the ACM. No blood was found on scene suggesting the ACM was not alone. For example, the ACM and the components were gathered and taken away by a third party. All evidence was gathered and turned over to FOB Salernos CEXC upon completion of the RCP Mission.
