At 1417z TF Catamount reported receiving rockets at FOB O-E. Rocket fire was effective with 8-9 rockets landing in or near the FOB, one rocket landed in the motor pool causing a fire minor structural damage was reported. No reported injuries to personnel. The POO was 6 km NE of the FOB. 120mm mortars were employed for counter battery fire on the POO and an ANA patrol was launched to the POO as well. The QRF arrived at the POO and detained 2 individuals with 3xAK-47s, 1xEnfield, 1xPistol, box of ammunition. One of the detainees informed the patrol he would take them to another POO site the following morning. At 0200Z, TF Catamount reported that patrol went to reinvestigate the POO sites and reported 2 confirmed POO sites. First POO site is at WB 1785 4287, second POO site WB 1910 4334 with a goat trail, debris and burn marks, they also reported 5 fighting positions within 100 meters from each other at the first poo site. Fighting positions had sandbags and burn marks from launch points. No launch platform was found on the POO site. [UPDATED ON 07/02/2006 2137]: Upon investigation of the suspected POO areas from the 01JUL rocket attack on FOB Bermel CF elements found seven reinforced fighting positions approximately five hundred meters NE of NAI 20 at 42S WB 1785 4287. All of the fighting positions are located within one hundred meters of each other. There was also a possible infil/exfil route found leading up to the area at 42S WB 1910 4334. Also, crater analysis determines that the rockets fired in the second attack all came from the general direction of NAI 20 or 21, not NAI 24.
