Report text
A local Afghan guard misidentified and fired on TF Devil Marines ten kilometers north of Asadabad. At 1625Z, TF Lava initially reported the patrol received small arms fire from an unknown element. The unit later reported that a local ANA soldier misidentified the Marine patrol as ACM, and fired on the patrol. The Marines returned fire and subdued the local guard. After questioning the man, the patrol discovered that the guard was merely executing his orders since he was instructed by the provincial governor to guard the site from ACM. There was no illumination at the time of the incident, and the when the guard observed the patrol he mistook them for the enemy. As a result of the contact, the guard sustained a minor fragmentation wound to his arm and some minor burns. He was treated by the patrols corpsman on site. There were no additional injuries or damages reported.
