Tupac Canal Engineer Assessment PRT Comments: The Nuristan [Kala Gush] PRT conducted an engineer assessment of the feasibility of repairing a canal in the village of Tupak [41S XD 27514 66261]. The canal in question services the villages of Tupak and Kowtalay. Kowtalay is one village south of Tupak. The PRT engineer assessed that the canal will need significant repair. It is washed out in two places. One collapsed portion is 11 meters long and runs rougly north - south. It is located at 41S XD 27510 66265. The other collapsed section is 26 meters in length, running roughly east - west, located at 41S XD 27430 66229. The collapsed portions of the canal are in the streambed of a tributary to the Alingar River, so any reconstruction has to be designed to withstand a considerable water flow. However, the benefits of this project to the irrigation systems of at least two towns are irrefutable.
